AN AVERAGE HUMAN LIVES 960 MONTHS OR 28,000 DAYS . HOW WILL YOU FEEL ABOUT THESE DAYS WHEN YOU WILL BE IN YOUR DEATHBED ?
I first came across this concept of Deathbed mentality when I read Robin Sharma’s book ‘The Monk who sold his Ferrari’ and I was quite intrigued by this.
I was puzzled as how,deathbed mentality works,although it is explained in this book.
So I didn’t try to understand the benefit of deathbed mentality.
Moreover I thought that its quite weird to remind ourselves of our own death.
But after reading books like Unlimited power by Tony Robbins,’The 7 habits of highly effective people’ and ‘The subtle art of not giving a fuck’,
I was finally able to sense the real essence of deathbed mentality.
While reading this book, a chapter came where I had to write to write the top values which I use subconsciously to make decisions.
I think this step is very important as ‘values’ are the core foundation of ourselves.
They determine how well we live our days, ultimately deciding our destiny.
But I didn’t take it seriously and didn’t take action, and just left those values on the page,without any reflection.
I couldn’t realize or may be I was ignoring to learn HOW powerful these values are and its relation with deathbed mentality!
Then I started reading the book ‘ 7 Habits of highly effective people ‘ and I came across the Habit no 2:’Begin with end in mind’.
This is just an awesome idea where Stephen says that we need to evaluate our values and use them every single day. yess!!
Each of us have some core values which guide us through our life.
For some it is honesty or it may be self discipline ,love ,improving every day etc. These values are used by our conscious and sub conscious mind daily.
So he says that we need to take some time to reflect(reflect means to be in solitude for some time and think ,this process is famously called reflection) and use these values everyday to decide our choices.
BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND: RELATES WITH DEATHBED MENTALITY
The above picture clearly explains the essence of-begin with the end in mind.
Beginning with the end in mind means you ask yourself what all actions and values you need to incorporate in order to achieve your goals.
ACTION TIME : DO IT NOW( VALUES FOR DEATHBED MENTALITY)
OK so we understood , the importance of values. I feel ,determining your values can be the biggest game changer.
Below is what I wrote:my top values that I will strive for each day.
- authentic to myself and towards life( I will tell why I m authentic to life in another post of mine)
- self discipline
- love and respect others
- living is giving
- fearless i.e love challenges.
- life long learner
Now its your turn!!Make a list now.
As I examined myself on the basis of these values,I realized a new definition of deathbed mentality that I had not read in any book.
I discovered that deathbed mentality is about taking actions which are in sync with my values.
TIME TO REFLECT
OK NOW IMAGINE TODAY IS YOUR LAST DAY AND YOU HAVE ONLY 24 HRS LEFT , COME ON FEEL THIS NOW!.
FEEL THAT YOU ARE GONNA DIE AFTER 24 HRS ,24 HRS IS ALL U HAVE . HOW WOULD U FEEL?PONDER NOW !!
WON’T YOU SUDDENLY BECOME PRESENT IN THE MOMENT’?
NOW ASK YOURSELF WILL YOU SPEND YOUR NEXT 24 HRS PLAYING GAMES/MOVIES/SLEEPING/ OR MEETING WITH YOUR FRIENDS /FAMILY MEMBERS. YOU WILL NOW BE FILLED WITH WILL LOVE FOR YOUR MOMMY,DADDY , GRANDMA, FRIENDS,SIBLINGS.
A FEELING OF REGRET WILL EMANATE BY REFLECTING ON THE DAYS YOU SPENT.
YOU WILL FEEL LIKE YOU DIDN’T GIVE TIME TO SUCH IMPORTANT PEOPLE,GOALS . INSTEAD YOU WASTED YOUR FUCKS (TIME AND ENERGY,THIS IS WHAT MARK MANSON SAYS IN HIS BOOK ‘THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A FUCK’) INTO TRIVIAL SHITS).
YOU WILL BEG GOD FOR MORE TIME , YOU WILL REALIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF 86,400 seconds(total number of seconds in a day).
YOU WILL NOW ACT AS PER YOUR GOOD VALUES . YOU WONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR LOOKS ,INSTEAD YOU ARE NOW FILLED WITH LOVE AND GRATITUDE. THINK, HOW OUR PERCEPTION OF LIFE WILL CHANGED. ISN’T THIS AMAZING !!!
NOW IMAGINE WHAT IF WE LIVED EACH DAY OF OURS WITH THE SAME MINDSET!!!!
HOW WELL WE WOULD LIVE!! WE WOULD FEEL LIKE WE ARE IN UTOPIA , AND THE BEST PART IS THAT IT IS POSSIBLE .
EMBRACE DEATH:USE IT AS A MEANS TO AN END
YOU KNOW WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS TO ‘ DIE BEFORE YOU DIE’(as ECKHART TOLLE SAYS IN HIS BOOK ‘POWER OF NOW’)’!!!!!!!.
YESSS. WE TO NEED REMIND OURSELVES EVERYDAY AFTER GETTING UP FROM BED IN MORNING THAT WE ONLY HAVE 960 MONTHS OR 28,000 DAYS TO LIVE!! LIFE IS NOT THAT BIG AS WE IMAGINE .
WHAT WILL BE YOUR LEGACY WHEN WE WILL BE IN YOUR DEATHBED? WILL YOU REGRET OR SMILE AFTER THINKING ABOUT YOUR LIFE ?
DO REFLECT AND THINK ABOUT YOUR LIFE .DIE BEFORE YOU DIE AND YOU WILL NO LONGER BE AFRAID TO DIE. BY USING THIS CONCEPT YOU WILL TRANSFORM YOURSELF
SO AT LAST THE CRUX OF DEATHBED MENTALITY IS LIVE EVERY DAY AS IF IT IS THE LAST ONE, AND USE YOUR CORE VALUES TO DETERMINE WHAT KIND OF ACTIONS YOU WILL TAKE.
TAKE ACTION NOW!!!!! . BECAUSE INACTION IS VERY COSTLY!! USE DEATHBED MENTALITY!!!
