I first came across this concept of Deathbed mentality when I read Robin Sharma’s book ‘The Monk who sold his Ferrari’ and I was quite intrigued by this.

I couldn’t fathom as how this works although in this book Sir Robin has explained.

NEXT , I DIDN’T LEARN MORE ABOUT DEATBED MENTALITY CONCEPT,AS I THOUGHT ITS NOT GOOD TO REMIND YOURSELF OF YOUR OWN DEATH!!!

BUT LATER WHEN I WAS READING BOOKS LIKE ‘UNLIMITED POWER’ BY TONY ROBBINS ,

‘THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A FUCK ‘ BY MARK MANSON ,’THE LEADER WHO HAD NO TITLE ‘ BY ROBIN SHARMA AND ‘THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE’ BY STEPHEN R. COVEY ,

I WAS ABLE TO FINALLY DECIPHER THE REAL MEANING OF DEATHBED MENTALITY, BY RELATING CORE VALUES TO DEATHBED MENTALITY . SO LETS START….

While reading this book, a chapter came where i had to write to write the top values which i used subconsciously and which i thought of adding into my arsenal.

I think this step is very important as ‘values’ are the core foundation of ourselves.

They determine how well we live our days, ultimately deciding our destiny.

But i didn’t take it seriously and didn’t take action, and just left those values.

I couldn’t realize HOW powerful these values are and its relation with deathbed mentality!!!This is an example of not taking actions.

HERE BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND IS MENTIONED ,ANOTHER CONCEPT OF DEATHBED MENTALITY.

Then I started reading the book ‘ 7 Habits of highly effective people ‘ and I came across the Habit no 2:’Begin with end in mind’.

This is just an awesome idea where Sir Stephen says that we need to evaluate our values and use them every single day. yes!!

Each of us have some core values which guide us through our life.

For some it is honesty or it may be self discipline ,love ,improving every day etc. These values are used by our conscious and sub conscious mind daily.

So Sir Stephen says that we need to take some time to reflect(reflect means to be in solitude for some time and think ,this process is famously called reflection) and use these values everyday to decide our choices.

BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND

SO LETS say you have come from work and if you have scheduled/ time blocked 1 hr after coming home to work on a project, you will have a tough time to decide whether I should work on my project .

This is where one needs to question themselves and ask:” is my action against the value say suppose ‘self discipline’ which I had promised myself to use and obey?

Beginning with the end in mind means you ask yourself what all actions and values you need to incorporate in order to achieve your goals.

You need to imagine yourself having achieved this goal(that means u are in the end) and now you ask yourself what qualities I have inculcated so that I have been able to complete and master my goals.

After learning about the values you need to inculcate, our actions will be based on those values, thus leading to good actions, ACTIONS which really count.

ACTION TIME : DO IT NOW

OK so we understood , the importance of values. I feel ,determining your values can be the biggest game changer and take you to apogee.

Then I understood the relation between the deathbed mentality and values.

What I did was , I took a paper and wrote the values which I wanted to see in myself and values which I was already using subconsciously, These were(remember do this exercise in a quiet place ,don’t continue to read if you are not doing this exercise because you are wasting your time):

  1. authentic to myself and towards life( I will tell why I m authentic to life in another post of mine)
  2. self discipline
  3. love and respect others
  4. living is giving
  5. fearless i.e love challenges.
  6. life long learner
  7. innovative

IMPORTANCE OF GOOD VALUES

I GOT TO KNOW ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOOD VALUES AND BAD VALUES FROM THE BOOK ‘THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A FUCK’.HOPE YOU HAVE READ THIS BOOK, IF NOT DO READ, ITS GORGEOUS.

THE DIFFERENCE IS GOOD VALUES DEPEND ON US AND BAD VALUES DEPEND ON EXTERNAL FACTORS. FOR EXAMPLE: DO WE MEASURE OUR WORTH BY THE NUMBER OF INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS WE HAVE ? IF YES , THIS IS A BAD VALUE, AS IT DEPENDS A LOT ON EXTERNAL FACTORS.

TEACHINGS FROM ‘POWER OF NOW ‘AND ‘THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A FUCK’.

THESE 2 BOOKS HAVE ABSOLUTELY CHANGED MY LIFE.

THE LAST CHAPTER OF ‘THE SUBTLE..’ IS ‘THEN YOU DIE!!’. HERE HE TALKS ABOUT HOW WE NEED TO EMBRACE DEATH , WE NEED TO REMIND OURSELVES OF IT. THIS IS WHAT ECKHART TOLLE HAS SAID AS WELL.

I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO UNDERSTAND DEATHBED MENTALITY COMPLETELY !! SO LETS DELVE MORE INTO THIS…

SO I STARTED USING THESE VALUES(WHICH I WROTE ABOVE)TO DETERMINE MY ACTIONS IN EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE .

YOU KNOW ,I UNDERSTOOD THAT WE NEED TO ASSUME THAT EVERY DAY OF OUR LIFE IS THE LAST DAY BECAUSE WHEN WE ASSUME THIS, WE DON’T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT TRIVIAL THINGS . WE DON’T WASTE OUR FUCKS(TIME AND ENERGY) , RATHER WE USE THEM WISELY.

TIME TO REFLECT

MARK MANSON ON VALUES

OK NOW IMAGINE TODAY IS YOUR LAST DAY AND YOU HAVE ONLY 24 HRS LEFT , COME ON FEEL THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!. FEEL THAT YOU ARE GONNA DIE AFTER 24 HRS ,24 HRS IS ALL U HAVE . HOW WOULD U FEEL?PONDER NOW !!

WON’T YOU SUDDENLY BECOME PRESENT IN THE MOMENT’? NOW ASK YOURSELF WILL YOU SPEND YOUR NEXT 24 HRS PLAYING GAMES/MOVIES/SLEEPING/ OR MEETING WITH YOUR FRIENDS /FAMILY MEMBERS. YOU WILL NOW BE FILLED WITH WILL LOVE FOR YOUR MOMMY,DADDY , GRANDMA, FRIENDS,SIBLINGS. A FEELING OF REGRET WILL EMANATE BY REFLECTING ON THE DAYS YOU SPENT.

YOU WILL FEEL LIKE YOU DIDN’T GIVE TIME TO SUCH IMPORTANT PEOPLE,GOALS . INSTEAD YOU WASTED YOUR FUCKS (TIME AND ENERGY,THIS IS WHAT MARK MANSON SAYS IN HIS BOOK ‘THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A FUCK’) INTO TRIVIAL SHITS).

YOU WILL BEG GOD FOR MORE TIME , YOU WILL REALIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF 86,400 seconds(Total number of seconds in a day).

YOU WILL NOW ACT AS PER YOUR GOOD VALUES . YOU WONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR LOOKS ,INSTEAD YOU ARE NOW FILLED WITH LOVE AND GRATITUDE. THINK, HOW OUR PERCEPTION OF LIFE WILL CHANGED. ISN’T THIS AMAZING !!!

NOW IMAGINE WHAT IF WE LIVED EACH DAY OF OURS WITH THE SAME     MINDSET!!!!

HOW WELL WE WOULD LIVE!! WE WOULD FEEL LIKE WE ARE IN UTOPIA , AND THE BEST  PART IS THAT IT IS POSSIBLE .

YESSS. WE TO NEED REMIND OURSELVES EVERYDAY AFTER GETTING UP FROM BED IN MORNING THAT WE ONLY HAVE 960 MONTHS OR 28,000 DAYS TO LIVE!! LIFE IS NOT THAT BIG AS WE IMAGINE .

WHAT WILL BE YOUR LEGACY WHEN WE WILL BE IN YOUR DEATHBED? WILL YOU REGRET OR SMILE AFTER THINKING ABOUT YOUR LIFE ?

A GREAT LIFE IS A STRING OF GREAT DAYS

WERE YOU BUSY IN JEALOUSY ,VIOLENCE, COPYING OTHERS, BEING LAZY,BEING INSECURE WITH YOUR BODY/LOOKS/HEIGHT /WEIGHT, BUSY IN SOCIAL MEDIA ,WORRYING ABOUT LESS FOLLOWERS IN SOCIAL MEDIA/NOT BEING POPULAR AMID GIRLS , i,.e IN OTHER WORDS:WASTING YOUR FUCKS IN ANYTHING OR, INSTEAD RATHER LIVED EVERYDAY AS IF IT WAS YOUR LAST DAY WHERE YOU LOVED OTHERS, WORKED DEEPLY , SPENT TIME WITH UR LOVED ONES, EMBRACING THE PRESENT , EMBRACED THIS BEAUTIFUL EARTH AND NATURE , IMPROVED YOURSELF EVERY DAY , BECOMING LIFELONG LEARNERS ,IN OTHER WORDS USING YOUR FUCKS WISELY.

I M NOT SAYING THAT MOVIES/SOCIAL MEDIA ARE BAD, BUT WE ALL KNOW EXCESSIVE USE IS BAD .

MY FRIENDS DON’T BE AFRAID OF DEATH . DON’T DENY DEATH ,CONFRONT DEATH .USE THIS BITTER TRUTH TO MOTIVATE YOU EVERY SINGLE DAY TO PLAY YOUR BEST GAME.THIS IS WAY BETTER THAN WATCHING MOTIVATIONAL YOUTUBE VIDEOS .

THERE IS NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF IN THIS WORLD. YOU NEED TO REMIND YOURSELF AGAIN AND AGAIN THAT LIFE IS SHORT AND I AM GONNA OWN MY DAYS. BECAUSE A GREAT LIFE IS A STRING OF GREAT DAYS.!!!!!!!! .

WE ARE SO LUCKY TO BE BORN IN THIS WORLD, USE EVERYDAY AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GROW,TO BRING A POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOUR BRETHREN AND SISTERS.

DO REFLECT AND THINK ABOUT YOUR LIFE .DIE BEFORE YOU DIE AND YOU WILL NO LONGER BE AFRAID TO DIE. BY USING THIS CONCEPT YOU WILL TRANSFORM YOURSELF . TRUST ME.T
